It can feel so good to have control over your life. To know what’s going to happen and sticking to a certain plan. To be able to make all the decisions and know what is going to happen in the day to day.
Being in control of your own life certainly sounds good.
Especially if you are a perfectionist like me, controlling your life may put you at ease and help you not stress about what’s going to happen. Your life would be a breeze.
But in reality, trying to control your own life just puts more stress on you.
If something doesn’t go according to your plan, you will stress out. When life goes downhill, it will cause you so much anxiety. And if the worse happens, you may become depressed.
There is an easier way to live your life. You can let go of the control of your own life and still be able to function.
Let go of your control and give it to the Lord.
I know it’s easier said than done. This is something that I have had to learn over many years and am still working on it. But I want to give you a few tips to help you with giving up the control of your life and instead give the control to God.
1. Realize the areas of your life that you are trying to control.
Take a step back and look at your life. What areas are you trying to control? Is it your work or school? How about your love life? Find out what those areas are so you can work on them.
2. Ask yourself why you are trying to control those areas.
What are you trying to gain? How will it make your life better if you achieve it? What will happen to you if the plan changes?
3. Know God’s power.
Our God is so powerful, way more powerful than you or me. So many places is Scripture speak of His power. He sees all, knows all, and controls all. And He is a good and great God with His power.
4. Let go and give it to God.
No matter what you may believe, God can control your life. He has your very best interest in mind. And He will move your life in the very best direction it could possible go. Give your life over to God and let Him control it all.
5. Put it to practice.
Every morning, before even getting out of bed, pray and give God control of your day. Read and write out verses that speak of His power. Stop and take five minutes out of your day to be still and thank God for you life. And whenever something in your life may go downhill, thank Him and trust Him in every area of your life, even in the bad days.
In His amazing love,
Hannah Marie
