At the end of last year we walked through a miscarriage. I was almost six weeks pregnant when we lost our child. It was extremely difficult but at the same time there was so much comfort in that season which I can only account to the Lord.
Then quickly after we unexpectedly got pregnant again. This was such a blessing because I know so many couples struggle with infertility and loss after loss. But even though I was praising the Lord this pregnancy came with some fears.
That is when my faith had to step in with carrying this baby after our miscarriage.
Before I start giving you tips and encouragement for walking through a pregnancy after a miscarriage I want to say that everyone’s story is different. And I don’t want to downplay any grief or struggles one might be facing.
Pregnancy and miscarriage are such touchy subjects. But I have felt that the Lord wants me to share my story. Even if it is just for one mom out there, I pray that this helps.
My main encouragement for anyone walking through a miscarriage is to not feel bitter.
Even afterwards and you may be pregnant again it is easy to feel bitter. But don’t. We need to set our minds on truth and remember that our joy is found in our God, not our circumstances.
Joy is on of the fruits of the Spirit. The Lord grants us joy no matter what is happening to us or around us. So pray and ask Him for abundant joy in this season.
Which leads me to the next thing and that is to keep praying.
Your prayers during this time may look like a single phrase or maybe just tears. Mine did. But don’t stop praying.
I clung to the verse in Romans 8:26 during this time: “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
Don’t be afraid when you don’t know what to pray. You can just cry, sit in silence, pray through worship lyrics, or use Scripture to lead you. Just don’t stop praying.
And then do not fear another pregnancy after a miscarriage.
2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
We do not need to fear complications in another pregnancy because our God holds all power. Yes, be wise but don’t fear.
And we know that God loves us. We can walk boldly through any pregnancy or season of trying to get pregnant in that love.
Finally we need to have a sound mind. God gives us that with His Holy Spirit. It is a beautiful gift if we choose to walk with it.
For any woman who is walking through pregnancy after a miscarriage I pray that this has given you some encouragement during this time.
I’ll leave a video I filmed a few months ago below where I share more of my story and some more tips that helped me through my last pregnancy.
