7 Ways I Made My Life Easier As a Toddler Mom

In a few months we are going to be welcoming the third little addition to our family. But I know that will also come with some change. So I have been taking steps to prepare myself, my boys, and my home for the transition.

Over the past few months I have been incorporating different systems to hopefully help both myself and my toddlers transition to becoming a family of five a little easier.

Whether you are getting ready to welcome a new little one, you are freshly postpartum, or are just looking for some ways to make your life easier in this toddler season of motherhood I pray that these tips help and inspire you.

So I started by decluttering over half of my toddlers’ toys.

This has taken so much stress off of my life when it comes to picking up the house each day. And it makes rotating their toys so much easier. I stuck with toys that could be used for a lot of open ended play and creativity.

If you want a list of a lot of the toys my boys play with check this out on my Amazon storefront.

I stopped following my toddlers’ laundry.

Wow, this has saved me so much time during my week. They honestly could care less if their clothes are folded nicely in their drawers. And honestly most of the time they will mix them all up anyhow.

So I actually made diy drawer separators and just toss in their clothes after doing the laundry. You can also grab some separators like this and make your life easier too.

We established a chore chart.

I don’t know about your toddlers but mine just wouldn’t remember to do basic things no matter how many times I would remind them. Things like brushing their teeth, putting their laundry in the basket, and so on were just difficult to remember I guess.

So I started using the magnetic chore chart from my Biblical Homemaker’s Stack and it did wonders. Now they do all the basic daily things, help me clean the house, and get excited to do things they would fight me on before.

And to be honest we don’t even use it anymore. After a few weeks everything just became habits for them.

I prep homemade snacks all on one day.

Usually at the beginning of the week I will prep snacks like crackers, bars, granola, cut fruit, and cookies for us to snack on throughout the rest of the week. This helps me to not buy prepackaged snacks and make healthier choices for my whole family.

We switched our lights to amber lightbulbs.

So this has helped our toddlers calm down in the evenings. We changed most of the lightbulbs in our home to amber lightbulbs, and I will use candles a lot too. Our kids go to sleep so much easier now too!

We have really started limiting screen time.

When I had my second son I relied a lot on screen time for many months. I don’t think allowing your toddlers to watch things is bad. There are some really great shows. But it depends how much you are allowing them to watch and if television is becoming an idol in your child’s life.

This time around I am really praying that we are able to keep screen time limited.

We are already working on this and it has been so great.

I use God’s Word to instructed and discipline.

You know, this one may be very straightforward. But for so long I tried to use my own words and wisdom to train my toddlers. And it really wasn’t working.

But when I started to use Scripture to instruct and train they grasp it so much easier. I think God made it to be that way.

If your little ones’ spirits are hungry for righteousness then they are going to be able to grasp the Lord’s Words much faster than our own babbling.

Those are the seven ways I have been making my life easier as a toddler mom.

I hope they inspire you in your walk of motherhood. And if you implement any let me know how well they work for you!
