Biblical Phrases I Use Daily to Parent My Kids

At the beginning of my motherhood journey I relied on my own words and wisdom each and every day. And we know what Proverbs says about that. I was struggling to say the least.

And each year as our boys go older I knew something had to change in the way we were parenting.

It’s so easy to look at all the parenting advice out there. Hundreds of Instagram accounts have the answers. You can read parenting book after parenting book. And even the advice packaged as “Christian parenting” all looks different. So what’s right?

That’s one of my favorite things about God. He doesn’t ever leave us without answers. And that includes how we should parent.

The Bible is the very best parenting book. And that is where I get my answers on how to parent our kids.

There are several phrases I use daily when disciplining and training. And they all can be tied back to Scripture. I will often have the boys repeat the verses that correspond to each moment, especially when we are first training that issue.

If you want to start parenting more biblically and have some phrases in your tool belt with issues arise I am not going to leave you hanging.

Here are some of my most used biblical phrases I use daily to parent my kids and the verses to go along with them.

“Are you being a peacemaker or a troublemaker?” (Matthew 5:9)

“You can obey or disobey. You have a choice.” (Romans 6:16)

“Working diligently reaps many blessings, but being a sluggard brings hardships.” (Proverbs 13:4)

“How can you say that with kind words? Let’s try again!” (Proverbs 15:1)

“Are you using self-control?” (Proverbs 16:32)

“We must do what’s right even when it’s hard or we don’t want to.” (Galatians 6:9)

“You can be strong and courageous. You don’t need to be afraid.” (Joshua 1:9)

“Our hands are made to bless not to curse.” (Proverbs 11:25)

“You are called to walk in the ways of righteousness.” (Proverbs 21:21)

“You need to give more than you want to take for yourself.” (Philippians 2:3)

Having these phrases and verses in your heart will help you in those difficult parenting moments. Because you are not relying on your own wisdom but God’s.

I pray these help you as you parent your littles. And I will say this is just a start. I am only 5 years in to being a mom and I know there will be a lot more issues and phrases that will come up over the years. But again, that’s why God is so great. He gave us a whole Book to find the answers for each season.
