Rahab is such an amazing character from the Bible. Her story is one of hope and redemption. Many of us today can probably relate to her story in one way or another.
Rahab was a prostitute, living in the city of Jericho. She was a sinner and an outcast among her people. Her people were enemies of God’s people. And Jericho was to be destroyed by the Israelites.
But God decided to intervene in Rahab’s life.
He led two Israelite spies to her door. She hid them and protected them. In return, God saved her and her family from the destruction of Jericho. And Rahab got to live as one of God’s chosen people.
So what makes Rahab such a great character to study? And how can we become more like Rahab in our own lives?
Rahab was a sinner.
I believe many of us can relate to Rahab in this area. Even if you haven’t sinned in the same way she did by being a prostitute and giving her body away, you have fallen prey to sin in some way.
Rahab wasn’t perfect and neither are you. But just like Rahab encountered a God who could take away her sins and make her new, you can too. You can receive the forgiveness God offers and decide to live differently.
Rahab made new decisions.
She decided to leave behind her old ways and sinful lifestyle. No longer would she follow the ways of her people. She had decided to live fully for the Living God.
You can make new decisions in your own life. Begin today by deciding to turn from your ways of sin and from following this world. And instead chose to follow the Living God.
Rahab lived with great faith.
When the two spies came to her door, Rahab displayed great faith in God by hiding the spies and helping them escape from the city. And her faith was remembered for many generations (Heb. 11:31, James 2:25).
Just like Rahab decided to follow God and live with great faith, so can you.
You can chose today to be faithful to the one true God. You are a part of His chosen people. He loves you and wants you to come to Him.
Rahab’s story contains many lessons that we can learn from. And over the next few weeks I will be posting about some of those lessons.
Her life is just like many of ours. We are all sinners. And we all need to decide to follow God fully and live with great faith because He truly loves us and is wanting us to chose Him.
In His amazing love,
Hannah Marie
