There are times when I have been so busy. Times when I have rushed through each day. I lived every day on autopilot. Doing my responsibilities and necessities without thinking beyond what had to be done.
During these times I knew I needed rest. So I would make myself rest for a short while before completing the next thing on my to-do list.
Even on the weekends, I would spend time scheduling my week and coming up with more things that had to be accomplished in the upcoming month.
And sadly, during these times my relationship with the Lord was put to the side.
I would maybe find time to read a quick chapter in my Bible before bed. But I had stopped growing in the Lord because in forgot to actually rest in Him.
“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest, eating the bread of anxious toil; for he gives to his beloved sleep.” (Psalm 127:2)
The Lord wants you to find rest in Him alone. And He will happily give you that rest.
People can rest in many ways. I know some who think resting means getting a massage or going on vacation. But in reality, these methods are just breaks from your life and responsibilities. They don’t actually give you satisfying, peaceful rest.
The only place to find true rest is in the Lord.
“And he [God] said, ‘My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.’” (Exo. 33:14)
Finding rest in God alone will allow you to go throughout your busy day and still feel at peace because God’s presence is with you.
Growing your relationship with the Lord will give you rest even when you’re busy. It will allow your spirit to have a satisfied peace while you are doing your responsibilities and living your everyday life.
Psalm 46:10 tells us to be still and know that He is God. I don’t believe that we are actually supposed to stand still to realize God’s presence. Your spirit has to be at a constant peace in knowing that God is in control and that you can rest at His feet whenever you need.
Finding rest in God alone will let you be at rest even in the busy seasons of life. It will allow you to find peace in your responsibilities. And it will let you be still no matter what may be going on in your life.
In His amazing love,
Hannah Marie
