I know how hard a busy season of life can be. Your life may be full but it’s so easy to let so many things slide. It’s a time when you start to decide what is important and necessary to you.
One of the things that tends to be put to the backburner during times like these is studying the Bible.
And I have been guilty of this. I keep pushing my quiet time back to the end of the day and then either forget to do it or something else comes up.
So how can you prioritize studying your Bible in a busy season of life?
Here are some things that I have found helpful and you can start implementing today to continue studying your Bible when life gets crazy:
Follow a reading plan.
It is harder to stay motivated to read your Bible in a busy season of life if you just pick it up and open it to a random passage. That’s why Bible reading plans are great! There are shorter ones and longer ones. So you can choose what is best for you to follow in this season. And it really does help you stay motivated to try to pick your Bible up more.
Don’t start with the harder books.
If you’re in a busy season, I would not suggest that you start by reading a book like Leviticus right now. The harder books take longer to get through, more time to understand, and special care to study out what certain parts mean. There is definitely a time to read Leviticus and I highly suggest that you do. But maybe this season is not the best time for you.
Find these three things when doing your reading.
Every time you open your Bible and begin to read, try to find these three things–a promise, a command, and a lesson to learn. That way you are not just reading through the passage just to say that you’ve done your quiet time. You are actually coming away from your study with something that you’ve learned and gleaned from the passage.
Write out verses that speak to you.
If there are verses that stick out to you as you’re doing your Bible study, write them out. You can put them up somewhere you will see them often so you can meditate on them throughout the day. Or you can try memorizing one by writing the first letter of each word of the verse on your hand or wrist and recite the verse throughout your day.
Listen to an audio Bible.
And another great way to study the Bible during a busy season is to listen to an audio Bible. For me this method doesn’t help me study it out well, write down verses, or take time to dive into God’s Word. But it is a good way to keep it in my mind as I’m doing things throughout the day.
If you are in a busy season, I hope that those few tips can help you when it comes to staying motivated to study your Bible.
And just remember that this is a season. Whatever you are going through or calling for you attention will pass.
But for now, do what you can. Stay grounded in God’s truth. Study His Word when you’re able. Meditate on it throughout your day. And don’t let your busyness make you forget the goodness of God.
In His amazing love,
Hannah Marie
