Modesty is a common topic among Christian women. It brings up many questions about whether modesty is as important as it seems to be.
The culture has found ways to change women’s ideas of what modesty truly is.
I just want to say that each girl will have her own convictions about modesty. And she is completely entitled to. I just want to debunk a few of the lies about Christian modesty and modesty in general.
Is modesty really important?
Every woman is God’s creation. He designed you beautifully, just the way you are.
Culture wants women to believe that their bodies are solely theirs. That they can do whatever they want with them. But this is not true.
First Corinthians 6:19-20 says, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.“
If you are a believer and God’s daughter, your body is no longer yours. Your body belongs to God.
This is why modesty is so important. Your body is God’s temple, both the inside and the outside.
So when you decide to dress modestly, you are glorifying God with your body.
Is there such a thing as too modest?
Modesty is a heart conviction. Everyone will view it differently.
Some girls may choose to only wear dresses and skirts while others choose to wear tank-tops and shorts all summer.
“Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire, but with what is proper for women who profess godliness—with good works.” (1 Tim. 2:9-10)
The whole point of modesty is to respect and honor God.
So there is never such a thing as too modest. Every girl is different. And her conviction will be different also.
I want to leave you with Proverbs 31:30. “Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.“
A woman who fears the Lord will see the true value that modesty holds.
She will strive to honor God with the clothes that she wears. And will not be led astray be the culture’s lies. Because she is a daughter of the King.
In His amazing love,
Hannah Marie
What are your views on modesty? Or what are some lies that you want to debunk?
I really liked your post. It seems like such a taboo topic, no one wants to address any more. This was really encouraging, insightful and not condemning. You go girl.
Thank you so much! And I’m so glad you enjoyed it!
