She didn’t know her worth. Her life wasn’t the best. All she knew was lies, hatred, and pain. Nobody would be around her. To her, she was a nobody that nobody loved.
But to One, she was so much more.
At the well, she met a man unlike any other. He knew her, from her secrets to her worries. Everything that people hated her for didn’t bother Him. He told her of a love so great that it didn’t care what she had done in her past.
This man told her what she was worth. He told her that she was God’s daughter. And that changed her life forever.
This is the story of the woman at the well in John 4. If you don’t know much about this woman, I would encourage you to look into her story. We are told that she has had five husbands and is living with a man that she is not even married to. The people of the town didn’t associate with her because of her past. So why wouldn’t she think she was not good enough to be loved?
But the Lord came along and showed her the exact opposite. He told her of His great love and how much she was worth to Him.
After their conversation, this woman went running back into town with a new mindset.
She was loved by God, and she was God’s daughter.
We hear this term a lot. “God’s daughter.” But what does this really look like? Who are you supposed to be as God’s daughter?
Well I could write an entire book on this topic and still not fit everything into it. There is so much that God wants you to be as His daughter. But He is not holding you to any of it. You are human and you will fail sometimes.
But the good news is that God will never leave your side because He loves you with such a great love.
Yet I don’t want to leave you with nothing. So I’m going to give you three ways to know who you are supposed to be as God’s daughter:
#1. She is wise.
A great place to find character traits of a godly woman is in Proverbs 31. The entire chapter is full of ways to learn who you are supposed to be as God’s daughter.
In verse 26, it says that she is wise. “When she speaks, her words are wise.”
Wisdom is a great character trait. But it is not easily obtained. It has to be earned.
Wisdom comes from reading, studying, learning, and failing. It comes from experience and it takes time.
#2. She is kind.
In Proverbs 31:26, it also says that she is kind. “And she gives instructions with kindness.”
Kindness is such a beautiful thing for God’s daughters to possess.
Being kind to others in every aspect of life is a great way to show God’s love.
#3. She fears the Lord.
Verse 31 in this chapter says that she fears the Lord. “A woman who fears the Lord will be greatly praised.”
Fearing the Lord, listening to His Word, and following His commands is the best thing that any of God’s daughters could ever do.
Who you are supposed to be as God’s daughter is a never ending process.
It takes work, experience, and time. But God will be with you through it all because He defines your worth and loves you with such a great love.
