Contentment. It is something that is talked a lot about generically when it comes to our faith.
It is also something that is popular among Christian singles. Being content when waiting for a spouse and finding satisfaction with God alone is very commonly discussed.
But what about all the other seasons of life? What about staying content in school? Or as a new wife? A new mother? A grandmother?… The list could go on.
No matter what season of life you are in, staying content is difficult.
We always want to move to the next big thing. Get over with this moment and move forward to the next. We look at where others are at in their life and want to be like them.
But our contentment should not come from a stage in life or the things we have. It should come from our relationship with the Lord.
First Timothy 6:6-12 speaks of this:
“But godliness with contentment is great gain, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world. But if we have food and clothing, with these we will be content. But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs. But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.“
Although desiring certain things in your life may seem harmless, it can lead to so much more.
Keeping your mind on the Lord instead of what you are craving will help you stay content where you are. Read your Bible when you begin to desire certain things. Pray when your heart longs for a new season of life. Whenever you feel unsatisfied, feel yourself with the Lord.
Philippians 4:11-13 says, “Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.“
The secret to staying content in every season of life is filling each season with the Lord. Doing this will leave no room for you not to be content because the Lord will completely satisfy you.
In His amazing love,
Hannah Marie
