There are so many influential Christians throughout history. Their lives were great examples that we can follow. And I love to look at the lives of great women of faith who lived in years past.
I want to give you a list of women from the Scriptures and from history that have impacted my life in some way.
Before I give you this list I want to make one thing clear though: these women are human. They are sinners and failed many times in their lives.
The only perfect example we have is the Lord.
These women are great examples to learn from. And their lives hold many truths that we can apply to our own life. But they are not perfect. Only God is.
So here are some great women of faith that you can look into and learn from:
- Rahab
This woman came from a life of sin and prostitution. But she decided to turn from her ways and follow the one true God. The Lord accepted her as one of His own people, and Rahab became known as a great woman of faith.
- Ruth
She was a woman who gave up all she knew to follow God. Ruth left her homeland to go with her mother-in-law to a strange land to her with strange customs and beliefs. But she clung to the ways of God’s people and God blessed her in many great ways.
- Hannah
This woman had a strong faith in God. She went to Him in prayer and boldly asked for the Lord to give her a son. And because of her faith and trust in Him, God blessed her with what she desired.
- Deborah
This woman, a prophetess, led ten thousand men into battle and had the victory because of her faith in the one true God.
- Esther
She was taken out of the life she knew and was made queen. Esther was put in a place that she had not expected to be. But she used her position to save her people and placed her faith in the Lord that He had placed her there for such a time as this.
- Mary
She became the mother of the promised Messiah. Just think about what kind of life she must have lived to receive that honor! When we look at Mary’s life, we can surely tell that she was a great woman of faith.
- Amy Carmichael
This woman became a missionary to India and ended up saving many children from the pagan practices of the Indian people. She opened orphanages in the country and served the Lord until the day she died.
- Corrie ten Boom
Running a safe house for Jews, seeing most of her family died, and living in a concentration camp did not discourage this woman’s faith. She lived boldly for the Lord and spread His message of love and forgiveness to all that she met.
- Elisabeth Elliot
This woman ministered to the natives that killed her husband. Her life is a great one to look into and learn from. She has written many books that hold so much truth and that I would encourage you to read.
These are great women of faith that we all can learn from.
But just like these women, we can be remembered as great women of faith. We can leave a legacy of trust and faith in God.
Keep learning from great Christians throughout history. Never stop reading God’s word and increasing in His wisdom. Allow yourself to grow into a great woman of faith. You will not be perfect, but you can leave a legacy that is one of great faith in the Lord.
