How to Spiritually Care for Your Home

If you are a wife, mother, or a single girl who has her own place, you are the gatekeeper to your home. You have a special and important job that God has placed on you to do each day.

Our homes should be a sacred place. A place where our families escape the outside world. A place where we welcome people into. A place where we are called to fellowship and worship. A place where we raise the next generation, minister to others, and form a lasting legacy.

That is why we need to spiritually care for our homes.

It is just as, if not even more, important than cleaning and organizing our houses on a weekly basis. We need to be spiritually caring for it and getting it in order because the enemy likes to attack from the inside out. He likes to start with families within the home.

So it’s our time to grab our spiritual weapons and become strong gatekeepers to the homes God has blessed us with.

But how? How can we be spiritually caring for our homes? I’m glad you asked. Here are a few ways that you can start implementing today to start spiritually caring for your home.

Go through a purging.

Before we can bring God’s spirit fully into our homes we must first purge them of any evil things. And in this day and age that can be hard. The enemy is tricky and cunning and likes to hide in plain sight.

But I urge you to go through your house and let God’s Spirit lead you. Remove anything that would not cause Him praise. Throw away anything that represents darkness and sin. Search for anything that is not pleasing to the Father. And pray as you go.

This can be something that you do all at once or slowly over time. Everyone is on their own journey. But the first step to spiritually caring for your home is purging it of all evil.

Welcome the Father.

If your heart is not right before your Heavenly Father, it’s going to be harder to welcome Him into your home.

So first spend time with Him. Pray to Him. Ask Him to lead you and your family in this journey. Read His Word. Meditate on His promises. And worship Him.

Then you can welcome Him into your home.

Anoint your home.

Walk around your home praying and asking the Lord to enter your walls. Pray over each room, for the people living there, and for all those who will enter your doors. Anoint the doorposts, windows, tables, beds, and so on with oil as you pray. Tell the enemy to go. And welcome God’s Spirit into your home.

Bring in God’s Word.

Whether you write verses on the plywood of the house you’re building or hang photos of scripture around your finished home, bring God’s Word into your dwelling place.

This is a great way to memorize scripture, have it in front of you daily, and just bring God’s truth into your home.

Allow worship to thrive.

Worship God at all times within your home. There will definitely be hard days for your family and days when you probably won’t shout God’s goodness from the rooftops. But don’t stop worshiping in your home.

Turn worship music on regularly. Teach your children to be in constant worship. And cultivate an atmosphere of praise in your home.

Keep praying.

Caring for your home spiritually is going to be an everyday job. It doesn’t stop with one prayer or anointing. Keep praying for your family. Regularly welcome God’s Spirit. Anoint your walls. Change up scripture. Worship often. And keep the urge to spiritually care for your home every single week.

Spiritually caring for your home is one of the most important jobs you will have as a homemaker, wife, or mother.

It is what sets the foundation for so much more. So care for it wisely and with the Lord’s guidance. Everyone’s journey will look different in this area. But the focus should be the same–to allow our Heavenly Father to consume our homes with His Spirit.

In His amazing love,

Hannah Marie
