7 Ways to Set Yourself Up For Rest

Taking the time to rest during your week is so important. The Bible speaks on this in so many places and it is so important to God. He established a special day of rest to remind us just how important it is to Him.

But if you’re like me, applying yourself to actually rest can be difficult. My mind is constantly going, there are things that I see that need cleaning, and so many responsibilities are just never done. So how can I find time to rest?

The concept of rest is such a mental thing. If you don’t set yourself up well to rest, it makes the act so much more difficult.

You can rest even if your house is not clean, if you don’t prepare well, or if you’re in a stressful season of life. God will still give you rest.

There are some things that I have began applying to my days to set myself up well for true rest.

Here they are! Hopefully they help you too.

Set the diffuser with a grounding blend.

As I’m preparing my home and heart for rest, I love to set the diffuser with a great grounding blend. Stress away, surrender, and frankincense are some of my favorites to diffuse.

Pray + prepare my heart during the day’s work.

As I go about my responsibilities during the day, I try to apply my heart to receive His rest and concentrate on praying as I go about my work. It really does help me set myself up for His true rest.

Be intentional to have a quiet time.

If I’m being honest I do not have a quiet time each day. It just doesn’t happen sometimes. But on the days that I am preparing to rest well I like to be more intentional about making that time a priority at some point during the day.

Play worship music during your day.

Listening to uplifting, spirit-filled music will help set yourself up for resting in the Father. When you are filling your mind with His goodness, even on the hard days, you can still find rest in the shalom (or peace) that He gives.

Anoint + pray over your home.

To find true rest we must remove everything else from our hearts, minds, and homes. And I love going throughout my home, anointing the doorposts, and praying through each room. It helps me center my mind on the Lord and resting in His presence alone.

Let go of what doesn’t get done.

If you don’t finish your to-do list or have your home completely cleaned by the end of the day, it’s okay. You can still take time to rest. Remember, it’s a mental process. You can rest with a messy home and unfinished work. It will be okay.

Get your heart postured toward God + the shalom that He gives.

Going back to the mental process of resting, you have to set your heart and mind to rest in Him. God will give you the peace, relaxation, and rest that you need no matter the circumstances. So posture your heart towards Him and rest in His peace.

Those are some simple ways that you can set yourself up for true rest.

Whether you are setting apart a special day to rest each week or are taking time at the end of each day to rest, you can implement all of the steps above.

They truly do help if you are mentally ready to give all to God and rest in His presence.

In His amazing love,

Hannah Marie
