Why You Should Take Time to Rest

We live in a world that is full of go, go, go. There is no room to stop and take time to ourselves. We have to keep up with everyone else, go to all the social events, make your way in the world, and educate yourself so that you can get ahead of your peers.

This society strives on a never ending cycle of striving to achieve something greater. And if we don’t achieve that standard there’s no rest until you reach it.

But if you dive into God’s Word, you will discover that the Lord has something else in mind for us.

Genesis 2: 2-3 tells us when God instigated rest.

By the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.”

And Exodus 20: 9-11 tells us of God commanding us to rest.

Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath of the LORD your God; in it you shall not do any work, you or your son or your daughter, your male or your female servant or your cattle or your sojourner who stays with you. For six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy.”

God created a whole day for rest. It is that important to Him.

He knows how important rest is for our bodies, minds, and souls. And He designed a day that we can rest in Him.

But this set apart day is often forgotten. And we continue on our non-stop, everyday life.

God wants us to take time to rest in Him. He wants to renew our minds for the next week, to take away your worries, and to refresh your soul for Him.

Rest is so important and we need to incorporate it more into our life.

Find a way to rest that fits into your schedule. Take time away from your responsibilities and just be with God. Let go of your worries and rest in the Father’s arms. He’s got you. Now rest in His presence.

In His amazing love,
